Join us for a rejuvenating Half-Day Wellness Retreat, thoughtfully curated for BIPOC women, in collaboration with Chelsea Athletica. This exclusive event, set for December 15th, is a chance to unwind, renew your energy, and prepare for the season with a clear mind and open heart.

Event Schedule

🕰 12:30 PM - Check-In & Welcome

Arrive, settle in, and enjoy a warm welcome with light refreshments. Ease into the afternoon as you meet fellow participants and prepare for an inspiring journey of wellness.

💪 1:00 PM - Movement Session #1: Strength & Sculpt

Start your retreat with a 60-minute, all-levels strength training class led by Katherine Markhauser, owner and trainer at Chelsea Athletica. Experience her signature Tone class to engage your muscles, release tension, and feel empowered.

🔥 2:00 PM - Movement Session #2: Core & Burn

Continue the afternoon with a 45-minute Burn class—a low-impact mat Pilates session guided by Katherine. Focus on building core stability, glute strength, and upper body endurance, leaving you feeling strong and invigorated.

🍏 3:00 - 4:00 PM - Nourishing Snacks & Social Hour

Take a break and indulge in wholesome snacks while connecting with other like-minded women. Relax, share your stories, and form meaningful bonds within a supportive, uplifting community.

🧘 4:00 PM - Meditation: Finding Calm

Embrace a moment of stillness with a guided meditation led by Jewelia Orlick. Ground yourself, release any lingering stress, and find inner peace during this often hectic time of year.

🔥❄️ 4:30 - 5:30 PM - Sauna & Cold Plunge (Optional)

Round off the day with an optional sauna and cold plunge session. This contrast therapy will leave you feeling refreshed and revitalized, ready to step into the holiday season with renewed energy.

Please note that participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from the venue. We're thrilled to celebrate the beauty of nature and create lasting connections in a nurturing and inclusive environment, curated specifically for BIPOC women. This year marks our third year of hosting this retreat, and we're committed to making it an even more special and empowering experience!

Join us for a weekend of nature, connection, camping, and empowerment.

**IMPORTANT: Unfortunately this year we are NOT able to provide transportation. When buying your ticket, please read the description carefully as we are looking for people to offer carpooling.

Gears Provided: Thanks to Adventure Report and the Ottawa Outdoor Gear Library (OOGL), campers who don't have their own camping gear will be fully equipped for this unforgettable experience! Just bring yourself and your adventurous spirit! If you have your own camping gear, you are welcome to use it. Please note that due to limited gear and space, tent sharing is something that campers will be expected to do.

Food Included: Delicious meals will be provided throughout the retreat, ensuring you have all the energy you need to fully immerse yourself in the activities and create lasting memories together.

This year's retreat is packed with an exciting lineup of activities, carefully curated for three days of pure enjoyment, camping, and rejuvenation:

Join Arc'teryx Rideau & Women of Color Remake Wellness for Hike & Harmony!

Join us for a day of nature, wellness, and community! We're thrilled to announce "Hike & Harmony," a unique collaboration between Arc’teryx and Women of Colour Remake Wellness, designed to bring together outdoor enthusiasts and yoga practitioners alike. 

Led by Biatris, founder of WOCRW; the community based organization focuses on creating safe spaces for the BIWOC community in health and wellness spaces. Through shared dialogue and inspiring healthy wellness practices, WOCRW has been a beacon in advocating representation within health and wellness community in Ottawa. 

Embark on a scenic hike through the beautiful Mackenzie King Estate, followed by a refreshing yoga and meditation session led by Ali.

Time: Please arrive between 9:30am -2pm. The bus leaves at 10am and returns at 2pm

Meet up Location: Meet at City Hall, 110 Laurier Ave W, Ottawa, ON K1P 1J1

Learn to Car Camp

Women of Colour Remake Wellness and Adventure Report have teamed up to bring you a morning discussing how you can try out camping for the first time and feel good about it!

We know that camping can be a ton of fun, but that if you've never done it before it can also be super intimidating.

So we've asked Outdoor Education teacher Jenny Kirton to host a conversation designed to help you feel comfortable with the idea of trying out camping, and answering all your questions.

Topics we'll cover:

-The different places you can find a campsite.

-What it feels like to camp at an Ontario Provincial Parks campsite. (Are there other people around? Bugs? Animals?!)

-What to pack so you will feel safe and comfortable.

-How to safely store food.

-How to safely cook food.

-How and where you can borrow camping gear for free in Ottawa.

-Whether camping is safe for kids (it is!).

Coffee and light snacks will be provided.

This conversation will be hosted inside at Patagonia in the Byward Market. Opened in December 2022, Patagonia Ottawa is a locally owned Patagonia Partner store. This event is a fantastic opportunity for BIPOC women to connect with nature, foster community, and embrace the joy of outdoor activities in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Led by: Biatris Lasu, an experienced outdoor enthusiast and advocate for making outdoor activities accessible to BIPOC communities. Biatris brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for nature that inspires and empowers.

Gears Provided: We're thrilled to announce that all necessary gear for this snowshoe hike will be provided courtesy of the Ottawa Outdoor Gear Library. This includes snowshoes, poles, and any additional required equipment. Our goal is to make this experience as accessible and enjoyable as possible, without the worry of gear.

About the Outdoor Project: This hike is an integral part of our Outdoor Project, aimed at making outdoor experiences more accessible and affordable for BIPOC folk. We believe in the healing power of nature and the importance of creating inclusive spaces where everyone feels welcome to explore and connect with the outdoors.

How to Dress:

  • Warm Layers: Start with a moisture-wicking base layer to keep sweat away from your skin. Add an insulating layer, like fleece or wool, and top it off with a waterproof and windproof outer layer.

  • Protect Your Extremities: Wear a warm hat, gloves or mittens, and wool socks. Consider gaiters to keep snow out of your boots.

  • Footwear: Waterproof boots are essential for keeping your feet dry and warm. Your boots should have enough room to accommodate thick socks without restricting circulation.

What to Bring:

  • Water: Staying hydrated is key, even in cold weather. Bring a water bottle or hydration pack.

  • Snacks: Energy bars, nuts, or dried fruit are great for a quick energy boost.

  • Personal Items: Sunscreen, lip balm with SPF, and sunglasses to protect against the sun and glare from the snow.
