Hello,
I am Biatris Lasu, the founder of Women of Colour Remake Wellness, a community-based organization established in 2020. Our mission is to create a safe and inclusive space for Black, Indigenous, and women of colour within the health and wellness realm. Through open dialogue and daily self-care practices, we aim to inspire mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being.
My journey as a yoga teacher and advocate for health and wellness led me to identify a critical issue in Ottawa's health and wellness community: a significant lack of representation for Black, Indigenous and Women of Colour. While self-care is crucial for all women, many Black, Indigenous, and Women of Colour (BIWOC) often find themselves excluded from the wellness space. This disconnect stems from differences in cultural experiences, health concerns, body types, and more, which are not adequately addressed in mainstream wellness discussions. Even when BIWOC actively participate, they often struggle to find opportunities to be truly seen and heard.
Women of Colour Remake Wellness was born from the need to bridge this gap. Our goal is to establish a nurturing environment where women of color can not only be acknowledged but also actively engage in the health and wellness discourse. We have created a space where women of color can come together to share their diverse health and wellness practices and, most importantly, inspire and empower one another.
I firmly believe that well-being is a highly individualized journey, and we are committed to ensuring that health, wellness, and self-care are accessible to Every Body. This space belongs to each one of you, and you are all welcome here.
Welcome to Women of Colour Remake Wellness.
Sincerely,
Biatris Lasu
